“Who do you play for?”

January was the last time that we wrote a blog?! We apologize for quite the delay. As much as we wanted to keep monthly blog posts consistent in our ministry here in the DR, looking back on what we last posted in January 2023 it makes a lot of sense to us for the great gap but maybe not for all those that have only ever kept connected through this avenue of communication. However, we’re back and we’re hopeful to stay on track!

Have you noticed the new look for our blog? Now partnering with SCORE International ministries, a ministry with a little over 100 missionaries serving all around the world, we begin a new journey with them as they are going to walk alongside with our family ministry specifically in the city of Santiago. It will be a new location for them as we work in fulfilling their vision together – “Our vision is to give every man, woman and child where the ministry serves multiple opportunities to hear, see and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Gospel saturation and true discipleship (disciples making disciples).” And how great is our God that He would be so kind to remind us that for His kingdom, who do you play for?

As the 4th of July has come and gone, one of our kids felt led to get in the patriotic mood and watch one of his favorite movies, Disney’s Miracle. In it, several of the scenes revealing the mentality of the players, well, we couldn’t help but notice the similarities that can exist in the church today. Something we can see Satan wanting to accomplish in each of us, creating chaos and confusion with pride, divisions and rivalries. *Watch a few of the scenes below. WARNING- profanity included.*

Then how can we overcome this? What should our response be to these challenges that we’ll always come up against? Following after God’s heart, God’s desires and listening to what He tells us through His word, in it the truth is revealed, it won’t be easy, in fact quite the opposite. We can read a little about that through the disciples we follow after still today.

"So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ." Acts 5:41-42

Rejoice in suffering. Count it worthy for His name. And daily, do not cease teaching and preaching. As the coach said in the film, “We move forward right now. We start becoming a team right now.” Push, persist, fight and yet rest as well in prayers and His power. Following after Him, you can’t go wrong. Our family will keep it going here in the Dominican Republic and with His Church, as the doors will keep opening, new opportunities given will be walked through as long as it glorifies our King. Ministry here in the Dominican Republic is connecting and with all of us coming together, His kingdom expands all the more.

Who do we play for? God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Not our organization, that organization but together! With one truth, as one body- let us move as one, leading by example – always.
